The Spoiled "Under 30" Crowd

  • Dec 16, 2007
  • Post a comment

If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious
stories about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with
walking twenty-five miles to school every morning ... uphill BOTH ways
.. yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in
hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard
I had it and how easy they've got it!  But now that...  I'm over the
ripe old age of thirty,  I can't help but look around and notice the
youth of today. You've got it so easy!

I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've
got it!

1. When I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know
something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in
the card catalog!!

2. There was no email! !  We had to actually write somebody a letter ...
with a pen!  Then you had to walk way down and across the street and put
it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

3. There were no MP3's or Napsters!  You wanted to steal music, you had
to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!  Or you
had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ would
usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

4. We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting!  If you were on the
phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!  Can u
say emergency break-thru's..until the operators caught on!

5. And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either!  When the phone
rang, you had no idea who it was!  It could be your school, your mom,
your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just
didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

6. We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with
high-resolution 3-D graphics!  We had the Atari 2600! With games like '
Space Invaders' and 'asteroids' and the graphics were horrible!  Your
guy was a little square!  You actually had to use your imagination!  And
there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen
forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and
harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

7. When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium
seating!  All the seats were the same height!  If a tall guy or some old
broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just
screwed!

8. Sure, we had Cable Television, but back then that was only like 15
channels and there was no onscreen menu!  You had to use a little book
called a TV Guide to find out what was on!

And there was no Cartoon Network either!  You could only get cartoons on
Saturday Morning.  Do you hear what I'm saying?  We had to wait ALL WEEK
for cartoons!

9. And we didn't have Microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up, we
had to use the stove or go build a fire ... imagine that! If we wanted
popcorn, we had to use that stupid JiffyPop thing or a pan with HOT oil
and Real popcorn kernels and shake it all over the stove forever like an
idiot.

10. When we were on the phone with our friends and our parents
walked-in, we were stuck to the wall with a cord, a 7 foot cord that ran
to the phone
- not the phone base, the actual phone. We barely had enough length to
sit on the floor and still be able to twirl the phone cord in our
fingers. If you suddenly had to go to the bathroom - guess what we had
to do..... hang up and talk to them later.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too
easy. You're spoiled .

You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!

Regards,
The over 30 Crowd

QotD: Cold Weather Beverage

What's your favorite thing to drink when it's cold outside?

When I lived in Wisconsin, I used to love to drink hot chocolate.  Then wrap up in a blanket and watcht the snow come down.  Now that I live in Cali, I still love to drink hot chocolate when it is cool outside, but I just sit in front of the fireplace sans snow.

What is your daily commute like?  What is the weirdest thing you've seen on that commute?
Submitted by E.

My daily commute is nothing now.  But, when I first moved to San Diego my commute was a different story.  I lived in Oceanside and had to commute down to National City.  In the morning rush hour that was pure hell!  So for most of the drive you were just crawling along.  Naturally, I would look around as I sat in traffic.  One morning, I looked out my side window and saw a dildo on the side of the road.  Someone was clearly enjoying their commute a little too much!

Survivor - Wisconsin style

If you are not from Wisconsin, this may not be as funny to you...

Due to the popularity of the Survivor shows, Wisconsin is planning to
do its own entitled "Survivor - Wisconsin Style"....

The contestants will start in Milwaukee ; travel up to Sheboygan and
on to Manitowoc and Green Bay . Then they will head over to Wausau and
up to Rhinelander and Minocqua. From there they will proceed up to
Ashland and Superior . Then back down through Rice Lake , Eau Claire and
all the way down to Madison and back over to Milwaukee.  Each contestant will be driving a pink Volvo with Illinois license plates and a large bumper sticker that reads: Brett Favre is Gay. I'm a
vegetarian. Bratwurst clogs your arteries. The Green Bay Packers suck.
Go Bears. Cheese is high in cholesterol. Hillary in 2008. Deer hunting
is murder and I'm here to confiscate your guns.

The first one that makes it back to Milwaukee alive WINS!

Endings

This week entire week has been about endings for me.  The week started with the end of a relationship and has ended with the death of my car.  It is official, I am on the prowl for not only a new boy toy, but also a new vehicle.  The funniest part of everything this week is that I feel worse about the car than the man.  Still, I am hopeful for what is to come in the future.  The positive side is that I will be moving in a few months and I will have a new car, no previous commitments and the entire open road of possibilities.  However, until I find a new car, I will have to become an avid walker (it's 1 1/2 miles from my house to the trolley stop - one way) and a public transient.  I am certain that I will not find a new man on the trolley.

Today I found myself feeling a little morose and still very tired.  I have decided that this week needs to end so I can begin anew with Sunday.

Happy Halloween!

I have to close this Halloween.  I know a bummer, huh?  And I honestly didn't plan on doing anything special, until my friend invited me to a Halloween party.  I thought about it and have decided that I am going to go.  The only problem...finding a costume in less than 3 days before Halloween.  Wish me luck and if anyone has any last minute costume ideas I would love to hear them!

Well, next week Wednesday I will be travelling to Austin, TX.  Though I am not a huge fan of Texas, I have had some good times there in the past.  And since I have never been to Austin, I am sure this will be fun.  Not to mention...everything is bigger in Texas!!!

Locked out!

  • Oct 7, 2007
  • Post a comment

Last night I learned a valuable lesson...do not lock yourself out of your house when your roommate is 2,000 miles away!  As I walked out and shut the door, I realized that I did not have my keys in my hand.  This is not a good scenario.  Luckily, some guy from my property mgmt company drove out to my house with a spare key.  However, I felt like an idiot.  And when the guy showed up with the key...he looked at me like I was the first person in San Diego to lock herself out of the house!  And if you can believe it, that was the highlight of my weekend off.

Clearly, it is a good thing that I will be going on vacation in less than 2 weeks!  Yeah, Texas here I come.
